Default Truck Norris in a 6.0

Hey all, just picked up an 05 Esky with the 6.0 with 317 heads. I am wanting to put a cam in it, along with some long tubes I have from a previous project truck and then finally getting it tuned at a local speed shop that deals mostly in LS stuff.

I am not wanting to change the converter right now, so something on the more mild end is what i'm after. I want more power down low and mid-range, and a good noticeable lope.

I've seen a lot of guys running the truck norris from BTR in their 5.3's but not many in the 6.0. Do y'all think it would be suitable for me, or should I look into maybe the SS2 or another BTR truck cam?

Thank you.

Anything in the 212/218 range will be a breeze with a stock torque converter. I don't know the specs of that camshaft you mentioned though.

You probably won't see the same lope as the smaller 5.3 liter. Smaller cubic inch engines sound off better than a larger engine with the same grind. I've had the SS2 in a stock LQ9 with headers and it performed well. I have a 3200 stall so I can't say how it will do with a stock converter. If your tuner can get a smooth idle in the 700's it may be tolerable. But the SS2 is not a low RPM performer... between the two... I would go with the Walker Texas Ranger camshaft.

That's what I've been reading about the ss2. The truck Norris seems to be more gains across the rpm band

Imo the listed cam is too small for a 6.0

I would look at things in the 220/224 range on a 111 or 112 LSA and 110-113 ICL, but closer to 110

What Red says is very true. But it has at a very minimum 1* of overlap, likely more. Lots of videos on FB and YouTube with TNs in 6.0Ls still got 'em chopping like JJ McQuade.

That's pretty similar to the "Sloppy Best" specs. @ 219/225 110.5+1.5. In a 5.7L the Truck Norris doesn't start loosing until after 5300rpm See the 12:00 mark:

And even at peak it's only down about 13hp. TN does pretty good for it's size even in larger motors. Might lose 20-25hp in a 6.0L but the torque below 5k would be stronger especially on a stock converter.

Yes, that'd be worst case at the peak (above 6k). The Norris would be better below 5k, right where you want it in your case.

Another good choice would be the SUM-8728R1 which is around the same same. It has a pretty early intake valve closing, so it'd build great low and mid-range. And the extra lift on top would keep it still pulling strong up past 6k. Compared to the Norris, it'll have a little less lope, but still healthy.
