Towing a Boat?
#1
I'm going from Gainesville FL to Crystal River FL which is around 72 miles and I'll be towing a boat. The boat is a 17 ft Century center console with a 90hp 2 cylce engine and the hull is composite with a fiberglass cap. Does anyone think it would harm my transmission if I pulled the boat without allowing my truck to go into overdrive? It pulls it fine at 60 mph in overdrive but when I get up to 65 it doesn't seem to have the grunt to keep it there in overdrive with my 3.23 gear ratio.

I don't know that's why I asked. I didn't think it would mess anything but I figured I would ask to be safe. My truck in 3rd gear going 65 only runs about 1600 rpm's anyway.

Do you have a temp guage for your tranny, if you don't get one. I would not even sweat it regarding the 60e towing that boat. Just remember if it has a 100 gallon tank thats 800# extra weight towing and stopping wise.
