Tips 4 HP w/no $$$
#1
I've done what I can for now till my next bonus or tax return. What mods can be done that are free or cheep and are effective. I saw an article in GM High Tech magazine where SLP did like 10 tips for 10hp for free on a Firebird LS1 GENIII engine. One of them was to descreen the MAF we all know that that isn't a credible mod. So post your free mods and discuss why they work or think they work.

some that arent all free, but very cheap
if you dont have an aftermarket/home made intake...
cut a 3" hole in the bottom of the air box. all the way through the metal plate underneath. i used a circle saw and it did a perfect job. then cut the ******* off of the factory intake tube.
throttle body bypass. remove coolant lines from throttle body. im not sure if it does anything, but before i did it i couldnt even touch the throttle body or i would have a blister. afterwards i can hold the throttle body without any discomfort. not recomended where temperatures get below freezing. im in texas so theres no worries here.
fill, port and polish, half shaft, bumpstop grind to the factory throttle body. very detailed how to on page 3 of my cardomain.
if your still on factory exhaust, unbolt the exhaust at the Y pipe, and remove it from there back. its annoying as hell inside of the cab, but its free exhaust that flows great

he already has pacesetters and ORY with a flowmaster 40 and K&N CAI... I would definitely say to get rid of the EGR hose in the intake manifold and have it tuned out when you finally get a tune. you should see how big that thing is sitting RIGHT behind the throttle body.

Weight reduction is FREE and makes you faster!!!
1. throttle body bypass... less than $5
2. Cold air - holes or tubing for more air free or $10
3. Spring clamps = better traction build-em$10
4. Cheap tune up= remove plugs and clean them / clean throttle body. Free
5. Find someone with tuning software and bum a tune.

Weight Reduction is probably the easiest (spare, jack, tools, etc.) and could save you a couple hundred pounds which would translate into about a 2 tenth drop in ET. The other ones are pretty easy to do but you pry won't notice that big of a horsepower difference (maybe 5-10 at the most).
