Throttle Position Sensor...
#1
Well, lately my truck has been acting kinda wierd (left it at home after I got it diagnosed) - it would drive normal for 3 seconds, then go WOT for a VERY short amount of time (maybe half a second tops) then go back to normal. I found out, it is a faulty Throttle Position Sensor, and the dealer quoted me damned near $900 for part and labor ($500 w/ tax for the part alone).
Sounded a little stupid expensive to me, so I did a little research (okay, alot) and found a OEM-replacement unit at Carquest for $112. A bit pricey, but nowhere near the $500 GM wanted.
Now, for the question. Has anyone installed one of these? My Haynes (diesel edition) auto manual does not cover this part, and I don't want to go buy the carquest part, dive into this head-first, and then find out that rather than just having a faulty TPS, I now have no TPS at all since I removed it. Anyone have or know of a tech article on how to do this install? Know of a place where I can get a new, warrantied (not junkyard...) TPS for a 1995 Chevy K2500 TD Vin-S?
Thanks guys!
I also need new rear drums, bearings, and shoes. What can I say, I didn't know how thin those rear shoes were wearing (it was actually less than 10-thal thick at some points)!

I dont know how it is for the 95 but mine was stupid easy. U unbolt it with the 21 torques and then unplug it and put the new one on plug it in. Its really easy, just not alot of room. I used a torques bit and some pliers haha

Sounds pretty easy, I'll post up step-by-step once I get around to doing it (just need to get the part while I'm in Michigan and everything's cheaper) for that plus the other stuff I'm gonna work on while I'm back home for a few weeks.

Leave it to a stealership to quote such a ridiculous price for p/l. It's just a variable resistor that rides on the throttle movement isn't it?
Talk to some more parts and mech guys about info and prices. There's an independent auto parts store here and the old guy who owns it knows tons of information. If he doesn't have/know it,he usually can send you to someone who does.

Thanks shandy, btw, can you give me the guy's business number?
I found out, the TPS is not the same part that I need, but it's close. I need to get the correct part, sadly. It's still a variable sensor (as you said), just too lazy to try and custom-work it.

I haven't replaced any parts on my truck yet so I can't help much in that respect.
My other point was just that if you can find a parts guy that's been in the business for many years,he can usually either get you parts and information you may need ,or direct you to a source, better than your chain store folks.
