Think I struck a nerve on DTW!

I have an original hemi, made in 1956 by DeSoto.
I think that "hemi" is an excellent marketing device and that's it. The combustion chamber more closely resembles a 2 valve pent-roof chamber than anything else. Heck, the new "hemi" has 2 squish shelves to pass emissions. Real Hemi's don't have any kind of sqush anything. They will never pass emissions, and are "dirty" engines.
A hemi consists of 2 opposed valves, with the chamber resembling half of a sphere, one or two centrally mounted sparkplugs and thats it!

I mean, seriously, with nitrous they can keep up with modded 4.8 and 5.3 trucks or those with equivelant nitrous setups. Im not bashing, I just dont see the source of this superiority complex and unfounded pride.

I wish the rags would do a comparison with a QC 2x4 hemi against a VHO.Now you would have a good apples to apples test.Once the results showed the real 345HP rated truck beat the other by .5 then we'd have something to rub there noses in.But there would be a million excuses flying everywhere.

I stopped posting over there for the very same reason that Y2k posted. It never ends. It's a crying freakin shame that a few of us feel compelled to simply sit on the fence and watch, or re-word our sigs, because fellow owners have ruined it for the rest of us. The stereotypes some of us Ram Hemi owners have been labeled with plain suck. If the engine under my hood was so damn superior, why is everyone complaining about the lack of aftermarket performance products?? I love my truck, and I'm pleased with it's performance, but for the love of all things that don't suck, factories shouldn't stop producing because a new generation Hemi came out. Competitiveness is one thing, but blind loyalty to a product with it's share of flaws (as is the case with most motors) is asinine.
And in regards to 5.7l Hemi not producing 345hp at the crank...I for one would be filing a class action lawsuit if the numbers weren't there. From what I've seen, 20-25% driveline loss seems to be the norm amongst bigger trucks like ours, up to and including my previous Silverado. Couple that with our inability to get into the computer (aside from recent SC and HP tuner releases), there's not much we can do. You won't hear much complaining from me though. I didn't buy my rig to race. It gets the wife, kid, dog, and quads to and from effortlessly.
Cheers Folks.

Now as far as putting that power to the wheels, DC managed to put 25%+ drivetrain loss in the equation. There was quite a bit of moaning and cursing over that but in the end DC said "like it or sell it, we will do nothing"! Feeling the love on that one....
Gonzo, closest test of a VHO vs 5.7L Dodge Ram motor ( avoiding the H word ) was an SS Silvo to RCSB Ram 4x2. Of course the Dodge beat it, not by much, but it was an apples to oranges test. AWD, quad cab, etc. Plus the rags hate to test stock anyway. The CHP Radix SS is throwing down low 13's and I see BigTex/Richard has 12's under his belt. Few to no Ram's hitting that mark ( yet ).

KTM,
Motortrend did the first test SS VS RC 5.7 the SS won by a small margin. And the SS weight was 500Lbs. more
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ux/index5.html
BTW most stock "H" I wont say it ,dyno at 260HP range a far cry from serveral VHO's putting down 290.The 5.3's dyno withing 15-20HP of the "H",At the crank dyno's dont mean ****,it's at the wheels that matter.

I am at school and just read the entire thread at DTW. Jim it sounded like you were talking to a bunch of 3 year olds. You try to tell them something and get your point across and they agee with you but then they still call their truck a HEMI, or HEMI Ram
And the guy that stated that stock 426 Hemi could outrun a ZL1 needs to lay off the crack pipe. The ZL1 was one of the fastest factory production cars ever made.

Remember a few years ago when Ford came out with a "BOSS" Mustang. I was so embaressed for them. I use to own a "Boss" 302. It was an insult. For everyone that owned a true "Hemi", I feel sorry. It's shameful what the PR guys do to a classic. Do they even share any parts? The true Hemi was a big block, 400+ ci., all steel, carburated, with a hemispherical port design. Where's the similarities? It's not a HEMI. Just cause they want to call it one doesn't make it true.
Next we'll see Ford call their 5.4 Triton a "Sideoiler" in reference to the 427 ci. classic engine in the Cobra. They have nothing in common but it's a cool name so let's run with it. "Dude, you wanna take the truck?......Nope, let's take the Sideoiler."
Every time I see a Dodge with the Hemi badge it makes me laugh. They are just as bad as the V6 Camaros that put Z28 badging on, or V6 mustangs that put GT badging on. How about the V6's that put all the Saleen body kits on. IF, it were a true Hemi we would all give it huge respect. Over 400 HP and 500 TQ. I think I would have one of those in my driveway.
Why don't we just start a ZR-1 forum and start calling any V8 a ZR-1. You got a hemi? Really, well I got a ZR-1. Take that! lol
I considered a 04' Dodge QC but opted for my Tahoe. Needed a little more interior space than the truck, (ahem...Hemi). I'll be getting a truck this year and have narrowed it down to 3. A full-size Chevy, Dodge or Ford. I'll decide later this year when I see what kind of write-off I need to see how much I'll spend. Needed $45,000 this year so got the Tahoe. If I end up with a dodge it will hopefully have the 6.1 in it. But since I call my Tahoe, "the Truck" maybe I WILL call my Dodge, "the Hemi" - I like the sound of it even if it doesn't fit. Disregard my entire post. I see the allure!!
