I've posted up a schematic in reference to this a few times...I bypassed the photodiode (ambient light sensor) right at the BCM under the driver's side dash, took all of 5 minutes. Used an LED, but the resistance is a little off...sometimes on really cold days the lights come on by themselves (the resistance in the LED must increase towards infinity as it gets colder). I've heard that a 1.5Kohm resistor will also work...I have one just haven't had a spare 5-10 minutes to wire it in lol. My lights are now full manual...I could wire in a switch to be able to choose between manual and auto if I wanted to.

Usually the DRLs are independent of the headlights I think. Good info guys, I did not know about the dome override trick. But I prefer something permanent. What kind of LED do I get? Just some kind of LED for a 12v application?

Yes I believe its 12v led. Before you solder it make sure it works. The first time i had the led in wrong slots and had to switch the prongs around. You can get them at any radio shake. I’m looking for the post right now.

The DRL's will still work, as Reckless mentioned, they are independent of the headlights. This mod will make the headlights fully manual permanently. I did it to mine sine the dome override trick doesn't work on 99's . Went to Radio Shack and got a 12v LED, but as I mentioned the resistance on the one I got is not 100% perfect...

Thanks guys....I think I will make mine more permanent as I have to go through the gate to get into the bases out here and do not like approaching wiht headlights on.

I went to change my DRL bulbs to amber yesterday, and the damn little plastic sockets were burnt to black and so brittle they fell apart when I tried to pull the old bulbs out So for now, I am without DRLs (no bulbs).
