Default Is there a real need for magnatized oil plug?

Is there a need for the magnetic oil pan plug or can u do w/o that feature

You don't have to run one but why not as it will catch some of the fine shavings.

You could use whatever plugs the hole, but the more you keep the small
(sometimes large) metallic particles that float in the oil away from the pump/filter the better. Just added security.
