synthetic or conventional oil for SPC 5.3
I am currently running castrol 10w-30 in my truck to break in the new cam, rocker arms, chain, and pushrods. After the initial 200miles or so break in, I am tempted to run either a semi-synthetic or full synthetic oil. I also have thought about running straight 30 weight, seeing as how the truck is only ran in late spring to early fall. I am looking for the best protection for my SPC cammed 5.3. Also, I did upgrade to the ported LS6 oil pump and am getting around 70psi at idle and around 75-80psi at crusie/wide open throttle. What are your thoughts on this??

I have always been told to run conventional oil for at least the first 3k miles. I have done that on a few of the cars we've put together and even the 383 in my dad's goat doesn't burn a drop of oil.

I am tempted to either stick with conventional 10w-30 or straight 30 weight. I use to use castrol 10w-30 with a quart sub of hyper-lube. There is a local oil distributer close to me (circle oil) that has been trying to get my to run straight 30 weight texico with a quart sub of hyper-lube. I only put about 1000miles on the truck yearly, so that is why I thought about synthetics. Just change the oil every spring, but synthetics don't do as good as a job absorbing water as conventional, at least that is what I have heard and researched.
