Swapping new engine in ?'s
#1
I need a little help I bought a 2000 Gmc Sierra with the 5.3 with a blown motor ( I knew before I bought it). I bought this truck with the intentions of turboing *it so if you guys recommend any thing that I should do while the motors out let me know.
The questions I have are is... since it's a 2000 model being drive by cable do I only need to be on the look out for a drive by cable 5.3 or can I get the drive by wire one to work too.*
The other question I have is I see some motors that come with the computer and some don't. Since I'm going back with a 5.3 and I already have the computer do I need another?*
*
.
Any good recommendations on an engine stand and a good book that explains in detail on how to pull the motor out of the truck and one for building the motor back up to par gaskets etc?
Any tips that you guys may have please let me know. Thanks*

no up on the 5.3s as much as the 4.8 and the 8.1 but imo the 5.3 should be fine if you buy a drive by wire just gonna halfto swap the throttle body. if your gonna go turbo i would say go with forged internals and a good cam

So if I happen to find a 5.3 with the drive by wire I can just take of the throttle from my existing motor and put it the new motor?
Do I need to find a motor for sale that comes with the *ECM and PCM or *will my existing ECM and PCM work just fine?
