most of the lifted trucks out there have too much tire for the area of suspension and will rub bad if they go wheelin' hard. to me i wouldnt get my truck out and crawl rocks etc with it, but i'd hit a mud hole or road or whatnot if i had a lifted 4wd... ive always thought that if i had a lifted 4wd (which i could have got and it would be lifted by now) that i would have it setup as to where i could get where i needed to go if i had to go offroad. wouldnt run some all terrains or some street tire....
as for 2wds that are lifted, they are chick magnets anything lifted, most chicks wouldnt realise that it was 2wd or not. and why spend the extra money for a 4wd if you know you arent goign to be muddin or whatever? no point in spending the extra money for 4wd, the extra weight of it, the extra money in the lift etc, and 4wds wear out more front suspension commonets quicker when lifted...
he could also go the pre runner look with 3in flared fenders etc etc etc like Ewogo on FSC... thats a pretty big deal out in Cali now i believe...
i havent seen urban cowboy..... so i have no clue what youre talking bout greg....

Just a wannabe 4WD.

I never said I was into offroading. This truck will probably spend 99.99% of its life on the roads. An occasional curb jump, pothole smash, and hardcore gravel roads is about as hard as it will see. I didn't buy a 4x4 because I didn't need it. I've got two good friends with Z71s that have never even used the front axles on their trucks. They just liked the 4x4s because they were "taller".
Benefits of having a 2wd vs 4x4
1. Cheaper to lift a 2wd (by about $500-600)
2. I only have to do one gear swap if I change ratios.
3. I'll still get better mileage
4. My front end won't wear out as quickly
Some of you guys make trucks out to be soft or weak. You do realize that these LS1 based GM trucks are putting down about 100 more hp than the fullsize trucks 10 years ago don't you? You also don't give any benefits to a 2wd truck offroad. Unless you are mudding or rock climbing, there is no need for 4x4. I've been offroading in plenty of 2wd trucks and they were still a ton of fun and could handle most of the trails. If they couldn't the trusty winch could always pull them out. Trucks are pretty tough, even in stock form, you can beat the hell out of them on non-paved roads no problem.
I still think a lifted 2wd is more useful as a "truck" than a slammed 2wd. I'll still be able to drive thru our flash floods, over nasty road surfaces, and some backwoods trails no problem. I can also get into any parking lot entry way no matter how sloped or dipped. Try that in a slammed truck. How about potholes at 80 mph?
Its not like I'm just doing a body lift here, I'm doing it the right way and replacing the suspension components. I'll still get more wheel travel and maintain a somewhat decent ride, as well as increase underside clearance. When I take it to the beach, these bigger tires will also grab much better in the sand than the current tires.
BTW, in states where they have sand dunes, they typically race 2wd lifted trucks instead of 4x4s. The 2wds actually work better.

Look at the name of this thread and then look who started it. Pot calling the kettle black maybe. . I had to throw my $.02 in there as well. He wants everyone to cater to his " i drive a ,sorry about your small *****, car" .

Nineball, good post. for an example 4wheelparts charges around 1300 for a gear swap for a IFS 4wd.
I think you are doing the right thing with your lift, although i like it how it sits now. You know you wont be getting into places where you will need 4wd, and you want a lifted truck... so why not... when will it be done???

I'm going to do the swap tomorrow. I would have done it today but I had alot of stuff at work waiting for me to do.
I'll post some before/after photos, and maybe some photos of the install.

to each his own guys, doing stuff to your truck to get girls is gay, but as far as some of you saying use the truck for what it was bought for let us all remember that we are on here bolting crap on to 4500 lb. truck to try to get a decent 13 second run out of them. Talk about a bunch of goofy bastards that includes all of us, my truck is more like a limosine than a truck so if some one wants to lift their trucks for kicks letum!

You guys forgot to mention the "better view from up here" theory of lifted trucks!!!
