For that price I'd say no way... if you can get him to come down A LOT then go for it.

take your extra money and put a turbo or maggie on your truck and have a better truck.that has a better chance of lasting.

They are not bad trucks at all. Some of you guys don't understand that these are FI motors. Most of us here do not have FI on there motors. That being said, it's hard to judge a FI engine's life compared to non FI engines.
It also has a lot to do with the driver and mods as well.
14,000 is not a bad price if it is pretty much looks immaculate like you said.
Good Luck!

i too have heard bad things about lightning motors and i agree with tim, stick with your chevy for good and spend the money that you;d spend ont eh lightning with an STS cam and more power adders, will end up faster and probably save you money. plus, its not a lightning...

There is nothing wrong with the Lighting motor, as long as you get a good tune when you start adding more boost. It is all in the tune. For the mods listed, the guy is asking too much for the truck IMO. 02 and lower have fewer threads for the spark plugs to hold on to, so they tend to spit plugs if the truck is not properly maintained. I run 12 psi (4lbs over stock) and have had no problems.

Diesel motors are FI and they live well into the 400k plus range. Its not about the motor being FI. The blocks are notoriously weak along with the rotating assembly and prone to failure.

Think about this with all the guys around here boosting the hell out of our stock motors that arent even built for forced induction, parish ran 22+lbs through a stock 4.8 people tend to burn a hole in the top of the piston before our bottom ends let go like the lightnings.
Ive always thought the 5.4 lightning motor was weak especially for an FI motor designed from factory.
Ask any tuner who deals with lightnings how many he has seen throw a rod on his dyno.

I talked to the guy, he is a penny pincher and is firm on the price. I looked at the odometer and it said 69,9 and some odd miles. And after thinking about it by the time I would get it paid off It would have 120+ miles on it. In 1.5 years my truck will be paid off so then I can start to spend more money on it. The thing thats holding me back from a stall and gears is the transmission blowing up and the same goes with FI.

A 408 with a T88 sts looks pretty tempting
