Question "Service 4wd" message??

Does anyone have any experience with this? It popped up in my message center(in gauge cluster) yesterday & wont go off...Just wondering if my transfer case is about to explode or what? Truck drives fine, etc. Any ideas or anyone else have it come up & what was the problem?? TIA

Ryan

The switch is probably bad. I believe there's a TSB out about it. I can swear I saw a sticky about this somewhere...

If you have the auto-trak transfer case, the 4wd switch in the dash could be the problem, it's pretty common. I replaced mine a few years ago for the same concern...the part was fairly cheap if I remember correctly (less than $50). Best to get a code out of it if you have access to a TechII scanner though, but if not and you have to go to a dealer, the diag cost might be more than the price of the switch...

I had the same message on mine ... one of the 3 VSS on the transfer case was bad.

Search these forums, there was a thread related to this, that had all the service bulletins listed for this problem.
