Default Rocker panel replacement

Anyone have experience replacing the factory rockers?

I am trying to do my own on my personal vehicle 2001 Silverado ext cab fleetside 6 1/2 box, 1/2 ton 4wd 143.5" wheelbase.

Thanks!

No experience and don't listen to me... I'm one of those sick bastards who can't force himself to cut and patch metal on a truck ...sooo when I do mine (tried to stop the rust but I have pinhead bubbles again) I'll be doing complete unisides split at the factory seams (~$750 a side). But, what you're prolly wanting to do is get you some cut and weld in replacement panels. Try lmctruck.com for parts. There are a couple vids on youtube and such of people doing the proceedure... good luck!

I did that on my 51 chevy 2 door hardtop, not fun but looks fine when done. I used an air chisel to cut out the old panels and then weld in the new ones and bondo became my best friend to hide the welds. I always wondered if it would be easier to find another body? In my case it wasn't easy to find one that wasn't wrecked so I bought the replacement panels, but in the case of a truck can't you find another body and swap it out seeing how they aren't 50+ years old I would think they would be everywhere?

There are 2 styles you can get. There are the covers that cover the rotted metal, and there are the style that you weld or glue in place of the removed rusted metal. I like the style that you cut and weld. I will be doing this next spring to my 99 that is quite rusty, and I have done this before to other trucks. If you plan on welding just go slow, and use small welds on all sheetmetal so it doesnt warp.
