i read on another site that GM is offering a new fix for the knock in the engine most all of us are so familiar with. on the other site it says that if you have this knock that they will replace your engine for FREE, yes that's right FREE...well as long as you are under warranty. feedback please.

Been there, read that and the free engine is not what it seems. We have allready discussed this in the other forum. Read here.

if i already have a 100,000 miles waranty, would it be worth to take in and have them look at engine knock? i really don't know what i am listening for so i don't know if i have this problem. it's starting to get pretty damn cold up here so maybe i will. do i really need to listen for it? or will it be really loud?
pretty much the only reason i want to change engines is because of the horsepower difference. i have the '99 and i would be more than happy to take the extra 15hp.

My understanding of the whole situation is that only certain dealerships are offering new pistons or new engines. The only way to get one is to have a real bad knocker. So far the only dealership doing the engine swap (that I know of) is Miramar Pontiac/GMC in San Diego, CA. So, unless you happen to live in San Diego or near a dealership that's going to do this (fat chance) your sh%t out of luck!
