Is it somewhat of a knocking sound? If so I think it's a common Chevrolet problem, I've seen a lot of trucks have this.

Does it make a noise when you feel the rubbing?

Could it be where the steering shaft goes through the firewall, maybe a little grease on the boot will help...or possibly the spiral cable (clock spring) is making noise?

Have you ever heard a clockspring make noise?Have you ever installed one? I have and I cant see how it could be doing this.

I've heard them make noise on other manufacturer's (Toyota) and replaced them under warranty...not too often, but it has happened.

On my truck every once in a while it will make a type of rubbing noise while tuning at low speeds or stopped. I thought it was coming from the column rubbing somewhere, but it seems to be coming from the hydraulic lines on my power steering. Have someone look at the hydraulic lines of your power steering while it is making the noise. If the lines vibrate while it is making the noise then that is probably where it is coming from. I havent investigated a fix for it yet.

Mine makes the same noise, gonzo. It's weird because I can make several trips all over town and it might make the noise when driving around in a parking lot, but the next time you get in the truck it is silent. Mine does it year-round, so I don't think it's temperature related. I've sprayed silicone spray everywhere that you can on the steering shaft, but it hasn't helped.
