Default Preventive Maintenance '05 RCSB

Hi,

As the title say, i just bought a '05 RCSB 5.3 stock with 88K miles, PO was an old man and he really don't know anything about the car. So now i have some Q's :

Engine oil change <-- what brand do you recommend, here the temp goes up to 100*+ outside.

Trans oil change + filter <-- againe what brand and do you recmoned and type of oil, and/or adding friction modifier.?

Diff <-- stock 10 bolt and going to swap eaton POSi later, so i should wait or do them all now?

spark plugs ? type and gap, i'm stock 4 now and later it will be cammed/243 heads/ NNBS intake.

really no issue with cooling system but i'm gonna flush and go with colder T-stat.

any thing missed? your advice is highly welcome

With any brand new used vehicle I buy I do a complete maintenance overhaul on it. I'll change he oil, I used to do Mobile 1 before I dropped my 6.0 in. Spark plugs I went with the iridium plugs for our trucks, I'll also change the wires to msd wires. All that is for my peace of mind.
Trans do not change unless there is something wrong with it now.
Diff I did mine when I got back from Germany with about 35k on it, haven't changed it since and now I have 141k. The fluid I used was just some Orielly house brand.

Personally. I run AmsOil full synthetic, bumper to bumper. 5w-30 oil, Trans fluid, 75w-90 for differentials, if it has a g80 in it now, I think you're supposed to use a friction modifier in the rear diff.

I'm also running iridium plugs, gapped to .035 iirc.

First thing I do on any vehicle I buy is a complete service. All fluids, and all filters, just a little piece of mind, so you always know when the filters and fluids were changed last.

Do not, and I repeat do not use friction modifier of any kind with a G80. General Motors recommends the use of a synthetic gear oil WITHOUT any kind of friction modifier. Since around 1998 all GM trucks have synthetic gear oil in them as factory fill.

SUBJECT: LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL (G80) LUBRICANT - (SERVICE INFORMATION)
VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL LIGHT TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH G80 REAR AXLE ALL YEARS
Some light duty trucks equipped with locking rear axles (G80) may exhibit rear axle chatter, especially when turning a corner from a stop.
This condition of alternate engagement and disengagement of clutches in differential assembly is usually caused by contaminated axle lubricant.
To correct this condition, drain and refill the rear axle with SAE 80W-90 GL5 (P/N 10950849).

The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended. Rear axle additives are designed for use in limited slip differentials which are normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a locking differential and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life.

As specified in Light Duty Truck Maintenance Schedules, locking rear axle fluid drain and refill is required owner maintenance at the first engine oil change. Failure to drain and refill the rear axle as specified may contribute to a later axle chatter condition. Refer to the appropriate Light Duty Truck Maintenance Schedule or service manual, section OB, for further details on change intervals.

But don't worry because my dip$hit local dealer denies the existance of this TSB..... and a local shop that uses Mitchell says to use it. I repeat however that you don't. I don't use modifier in any of my Gov locks and most of them still actually work, lol.

Use a decent synthetic oil in the rear diff, and personally I use synthetic throughout. Then again I do the extended drain intervals that are recommended with Amsoil ( 15000 miles) with their engine oil. Trans..... I would use at least a good Dexron 3 oil ( factory in an 05). You can use Dex 6 supposedly with no ill effects. Personally I use Amsoil synthetic ATF..... I get Amsoil cheap from a buddy and that is the only reason why, lol.

Spark plugs...... I am still rocking my originals in my 05 with no ill performance, mileage or otherwise and they have 100000 miles on them now. I probably would just use GM stockers or NGK equivalents.

I never run iridium plugs bc they dont last 10k miles in my truck. I run TR6 now and will go to a TR-55 soon.
