Default Outright sell vs trade in

I have a new truck ordered the dealer I ordered it from gave me a round about price on the trade in but wont do anything concrete until my new one comes in. I did get a concrete price on my new one though. It's an 07 sierra classic offered bet 19500 and 21500 for it. In the interim I have a guaranteed sale for 20000 their bank has already contacted me. Would it be worth the break on the taxes for trading it in to justify it or get cash in my hand and wait happily till new ride comes in?

If they gonna gie you at least 19500 for a trade, it'd be better to trade it than sell for 500 more at least if your state handles the taxes like La. Where they give you a tax credit for the trade and you only pay taxes on the difference.

Agreed, only problem with it is that you just never know when dealing with dealerships. They might offer you 19500 now, and 15K a month later.

I just did the same thing about 2 weeks ago when I traded my 2007 Chevy Classic for a new ride. I sold my 07 to an individual through the dealership and still got all of the tax trade in credit. So basically what I did was put my old truck for sale in my yard - a guy came by and wanted to buy it so I said alright and we went to the dealership and they processed the transaction. Only problem was getting my wife to take me to work for a few days before the new truck got here.

Look yours up in the KBB.com. See if its a fair price.

I would get a firm price on it. The truck is there in front of them, "as long as you dont drive over xxx miles, this is what we will give you" A $2k difference is alot to me.

How long will it take to get the new one? Did you negotiate down the price? If they are willing to give you a good price for yours and also willing to come down off the sticker $6 to $10k, I would trade it. They can make more $ selling your old one.

New one is a 6.2 SLT CC 4x sierra. 36425 before taxes. I've done KBB on it already and kinda priced it between retail and trade in I only have 25K on it.
