Default opinions needed on possible future purchase

What's up guys? Here in the next few weeks I may be getting a full size crew cab truck. I've found a couple of '04 Chevy's with the 5.3 and would like to know about any future problems there may be with one of these. After doing a bit of searching, it looks like there may be some piston slap and/or noisy valvetrain issues. Are there any other issues to look out for? I'm all ears so any comments good or bad are welcome.

Jeff

i have no real complaints for mine. that little piston slap went away in mine with some thicker oil. if you plan on modding it, these transmssions are a weak spot

i've always been a chevy guy myself (even with the dune buggy motor). we've beat em to death but they still run like champs. we had a few bad experiences with 2 ford vehicles, now everything is chevy.
and like ls1truckguy said, the transmissions go bye bye pretty quick if you get over 400-450rwhp

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Most likely I won't be doing any mods other than maybe exhaust just to make it sound better. Right now I am not looking to have a project vehicle in any way. The 95 Lightning I just sold had a laundry list of parts thrown at it, including a 408 with AFR heads, and it just wasn't wasn't something I really needed right now. My wife and I are looking at buying a house pretty soon and will probably have a kid on the way in another year, so this way I still get to have a truck but with the convenience of a 4 door car.
