Default Oil weight and Cold Start Knock?

I need to change my oil again (every 3K) and the last two times I did, I had CSK for about a month after the oil change with the new oil in the engine. I use Mobil 1 5w-30 per the manual and I was thinking about changing viscosity to see if it helped CSK. Does oil get thinner or thicker when it gets old? Does the 5w go to 10w or 0w when it gets old? Should I switch to 0w-30 or 10w-30 to try and help CSK? What ya think?

Maybe you should try the 10w 30. That is what I have always used. I have heard it is thinner than most other 10w 30 oils. Also I think oil gets thicker when it's cold. You can go to a closing Kmart or any Target and get Mobil 1 for a discount.

Mine has that same knock problem your talking about. I get my oil changed at the dealership so I dont use any synthetic oil.

I have asked on sevral occasions what it is that accually makes it knock, and so far all ive gotten is the ''well it's your lifters, it's your valve terrain....''. So I ask what can be done to fix it and the guy just says ''I dont know?'' .

So I say go with the 10w30 and then report back on how it's doing.
