Default odometer and flat towing

I've been a little curious about flat towing and the odometer reading. I have a 99 silverado 4.8, 4l60e and i bought it from an rv company. I am curious about this because the odometer reads 310,000kms but the rest of the truck doesnt really seem to match that mileage. i suspect the truck was possibly used as a pilot vehicle and had a lot of towing miles on it. i just did front brakes yesterday and they look like original pads and rotors. anyone have any insight to this?

The odometer wont register the miles unless the key was on. And if they didnt remove the DS, the trans wouldnt last long since the fluid lubes everything. Without it, it would eat the rear bearings.

Ive seen some 99-02's with 250k+ miles still look brand new.

If its 4wd it could have been throw in neutral with the t-case. Still wouldn't explain how all the miles got put on there. Maybe it's wired so when the key is in the unlock position it will record the mileage so it can't be sold with low mileage. Idk

Yep 4wd's are easy to flat tow since the transfer case can be put in neutral. Also not sure about mileage being recorded when truck is off. My guess is that it's not since the PCM wouldn't be powered on, but I'm not sure.

Ask them if the gauge cluster was replaced. That could be a good exclamation.

well, i bought the truck at an auction so i never talked to original owner. i just noticed from the registration that there was only one owner before me and it was a RV company, so i cant say for sure what they were using it for.

How does kms compare to miles ? My 2000 rcsb 5.3 had 175K miles when I sold it. (Bad move on my part) I bought the truck new and the only brake work I did was the parking brake clips. Towed and carried loads quite often as well.

Lol..... internet conversion maybe.

Kilometers to Miles (km to miles) converter

It works out to 187000 miles.
