that is a nice build. Im thinking what Im wanting to do will be a stockish engine with a cam at first and then a fast intake or something of that nature. Still want good torque just something with a little more *** and a lot more action. Miss my SS a lot and if I could get this thing to run as well as it did thats what im after

You appear to have missed an important detail....maybe the most important, the need for a cylinder head upgrade.

oh no i get that but im not looking to make that much power either. I know the heads are were the power is at. I guess Im going on previous experience. I had a stock 01 SS and with long tubes and a tune through a slugomatic it made 328hp and 335 tq. Im just looking to be in somewhat of a similar neighborhood. Sure the almost 500 the magazine truck made would be awesome, but Im not looking to spend the almost 4K they spend.LOL

I have bolt ons with a fairly small cam and no stall in my crew cab denali and I ran a 13.8. 5.3's with the same mods and a stall would barely run that in my truck where as when I get a stall ill be looking for a 13.1. Not to mention that the bigger 4" bore allows for a whole different level of performance heads (including L92's) that make huge top end power on a budget.

What will the 6.0 cost you over a 5.3? $500??? Good luck making an extra 50+ ft/lbs on a $500 budget. I think its money well spent, especially, as I mentioned above, considering the doors it opens to a high HP build.

Go with a 6.0 and mild cam and you'll never look back.

If this thread doesnt sell you on a 6.0 then nothing will... Look at post #12 and try to tell me thats not impressive.

Thats a pretty damn conservative cam for both engines, but I think the more extreme you get with the cams in both engines the bigger the difference would be. You could also get away with a smaller converter with the 6.0 bc of all the added torque down low which could actually HELP gas mileage. The 6.0 makes more torque at 2500 RPM and lower than the 5.3 does at its peak... just sayin
