Exclamation Need help!!! Hood latch cable may have broke!

Well I know this isn't performance related, but I need help big time!

Wanted to change my oil today, and I've been having issues with my hood latch not releasing due to the cable feeling out of adjustment/stretched. Well today I think it may have finally broke.

Does anyone know how I can get the hood open if the release cable has broken???

Thanks for any info!

Where did the cable break? Can you pull it from under the truck?

Well I got the hood open. Just used a long screw driver to move the bracket back far enough to pop it open that the cable is attached to on the latch. But the question now is what isn't working right.

With the hood open, I can have someone pull the release handle in the cab and watch the cable move and pull the latch some. But with the hood closed, the cable does not move at all.

At this point I soaked the latch with lithium grease and will see how it acts tomorrow. At least I now know how to get the hood open if the cable brakes, which I don't think it did.

Haven't looked at a GMT800 hood release cable but if it's got a little chunk swaged onto the end that forms the stop, a super ghetto but workable solution is to pull a small zip tie closed just ahead of it so you get more cable pull. (and of course cut off the excess zip tie end)

I'm almost positive it stretched. Ever replace one of these cables before?
