NASCAR points system is .....

in my opinion.Automobile racing is not a ball sport! You don't need "Playoffs"
because every team gets to play every "game." Yes, they needed to fix the previous points system but this is worse. The old system was 180 points for 1st and 5 less for each position until a certian position, I forget off hand. Then it changed to 4 points less per position and then at some point 3. This is what created the "I didn't win any races but I won the championship" mess. They should have instituted a system where there were different point differentials for every position for 1st through some low finish positon, say 5th, 10th or 15th. IE following schedule; for 1st 11 positions:500
440
390
345
305
270
240
215
195
180
170
then -5 for every position through 20 then -4 for 21-30 and -3 for 31-43. 43rd would get 46 points in this system. Maybe this is too drastic in the 1-10 positions but you get the idea. With this system the Championship remains a contest through the last race. Another benefit to this system is that if you get a DNF or other low finish because some idiot caused a wreck you couldn't avoid, you aren't screwed. BTW lose that "lead a lap" and "lead most laps" garbage. Its a race. How you finish is all that matters.
I set up the poll for multiple votes so you can vote on Nascar's system, options 1-5, and my suggested system, options 6-7.
Now I am too lazy to do this but anybody want to take my system and recalculate the past few years results and see how they change?

Nascar is a waste of time anyway. watching cars go around in circles is boring. It would be like going to the track and watching a rabbit beat everyone because he got his car started first. Nascar sucks.

If I was a sponsor and my car wasn't in the top ten with ten races to go and they WOULD have a chance if it were not for the crappy new points system I would pay for the sponsorship for those last races. Why should the sponsor pay if NASCAR has already decided who the top ten will be with ten races to go. If you're outside the top ten you still have a chance to make it into the top ten with ten to go. Hit them where it hurts..in the wallet....no offense to the JR fans but I believe if he was out of the top ten with ten to go NASCAR would change the new system real quick...not trying to start anything by any means, but just stating my opinion that's all

Bruce I would have to disagree. Nascar has never been in favor of Jack Roush over the other teams. Look at the 2 times Mark Martin was leading the points. Both times he had points taken away for retarted reasons. I think the last time he had points taken away because his spoiler was bairly off at a race that he didn't even finish well in. However they have punished him twice by deducting points from him and he lost both times by less than what they took away. I dunno about you but Mark Martin is one of the only people still racing in Nascar that I think truely deserves a championship. Unfortunatley that will probably never happen because of all the new setups for the cars make it so you have to drive with a different driving style then what the old setups were.
