My parts pile has begun

Soon....very soon. The real question is when will I actually install it? I'd hate to put it in just to pull the engine in a couple months, so I might wait and do them both at the same time.

glad to hear you got the machine shop BS handled. finally got done designing the new fishing lure mold, so I can actually start working on the dune buggy stuff now
.
is the motor going to have a speed density tune? jw what your plans are with the tuning. and you do your own tuning correct?

Good deal! Now let's see some progress on the buggy!!!
I'm going with a MAF tune for now, but I'll probably have to go SD when I do the turbo, unless I can find a way to do a hybrid MAF/SD tune. I am doing my own with EFILive.

from what i've read the stock tune is a MAF/SD tune. I can't totally remember exactly the technical part of it, but basically the motor uses SD under quick throttle changes and MAP changes and MAF is used while under constant/slow conditions like cruising and what not. and the low end lives a lot off of SD b/c the MAF isn't very accurate down low, but up top above like 3k or so the MAF is very accurate and relies then on MAF tuning. here's the link that I got off hptuners that provides a shitload of info on SD and MAF tuning.

hope that link helps a little. it's geared around using HPTuners, but the same concept applies to every tuning software.

hmmmm. im not really familiar with efilive at all, but I'm sure there's some way you can have the truck enter SD only when over a certain MAP or RPM. Don't understand really why you wanna still use the MAF down low. I'd just ditch it and go full out SD. OL or CL is the question then. If you read into that link I gave you it goes so indepth into OL vs. CL it makes my brain hurt. It's worth taking the time to read though. btw, does anyone make a MAF that allows for that much airflow? should be like 45+ lb/minute huh?
