Default Is my oil pump going out??

About half the time when i am sitting at a stop my oil pressure drops to zero and my light comes on. I give it a little gas and the pressure comes right back up. My oil level is good but the truck has 135k on it. What can i do to fix it? This motor has to last me til christmas when i will drop the new motor in it. I just dont want to spend anything on this 4.8. Thanks in advance

Are you going by the factory guage? Possibly a bad oil pressure sender, excessive bearing wear/clearance, oil pump pick up o-ring. If you're going by the factory guage, get your hands on a manual guage and make sure that your readings are correct, you might get lucky and it'll just need a sender.

are you hearing any weird noises? it may be the sender as mentioned above. My old S-10 did it once, after I shut it down and started it back up it never did it again after a few years, it may just be a fluke... but noises like tapping could mean a real issue...

I agree with Bud but also it could be your sump tube. One day, i was driving around, minding my own business when i suddenly lost oil pressure. The mechanic said that somehow the sump tube got perferated. Truck had <40K on it at the time! WTF! Just a thought. Also it could be your o ting that sits between the tube and the pump itself. Just some suggestions. Have you ever had the pump off for any reason?

Ive never had the pump off. When i loose pressure i can hear a ticking. I dont think its a sender because it only does it at an idle and it come back up when I give it a little gas.
