Hey vortec350,
Every consider putting a cam in that L31? I did on my '98 and it really picked it up over 3000rpm
We are all gearheads here and can help with most mods....
Welcome.

Yeah ive thought avbout a cam but,im afraid to mess with anything internally.Im afraid it might afect the everyday drivin,I just dont want any problems with it.I could be wrong it might not hurt it but I have 172,700miles on it now and still the original engine, burns no oil great compression. When I did the compression test I could not believe the readings, the highest was 172psi and the lowest was 167psi,it was hard to believe it so I went and bought a new gauge and I got the same readings.I love this engine though. It still runs 9.8s in the 1/8 and 15.2s in the 1/4 even with all of these miles.

I hear you. I never had a problem with my L31 and romped on it daily. You are limited on the cam selection by the heads on these engines. Anything over .480 lift and you would need to pull them and have the guides machined down. I put a mild comp cam 206,212 480 488 I think... and other than driling the hole in the butterfly for a better idle, it ran great.
172,000 and still running strong, I might not want to bust it open either.....

Yeah I am not goin to but I would like a cam but my luck would be for something to go wrong and really dont need that.Im pretty happy with my perf.My dad has a 02 ext.cab shortbed Z71 and he has a HPP III,K&N FIPK,throttlebody spacer and borla exhaUST,We raced the other day and I took him about 2 lengths but he did start to creep real slowly though since his powerband is in the higher rpms. But I still beat him.Im wonderin if the BBK 80mm throttlebody is worth 400.00,Does it make a difference?Does anybody have one?

Well I think the 350's TB is around 70-72mm BUT I don't think your heads/cam need that much more flow. I'd just port the stocker and save some cash. If it makes any power it will be at 4500rpms+
If I was to put $400 towards performance I'd go with:
Mild-Medium stall converter (Yank prolly makes one for your 30 spline input shaft) www.converter.cc Anywhere from 2400-3000 would make a huge difference in dead stop performance.
New cat converters! With 170K, I'd have hacked them out 70K ago lol. CarSound (Magnaflow made) flow great and will still be okay with the sniffer.
4.10:1 gears! Going from that 3.42:1 to the 4.10:1 would be very nice.
You could always try a GMS MAF sensor. Those sell for cheap on ebay.
