This is a very common problem we have at lexus. The Toyota MAFs seem to be a little more sensitive to the oil than most others because just about every car that comes in with a K&N runs into this problem eventually. We always warranty them even though the filter caused the problem because they are too worried about customer satisfaction being hurt by not fixing the problem.
If you oil your filter correctly you should never run into this problem

I couldnt help but notice the repetition of the word "Excessively" sure if you spray a whole can of oil on your filter, then your gonna have problems.
I think that if its done properly(read the directions first) then there should be no problems...
http://www.knfilters.com/filtercharger.htm This says that it WILL NOT void your warrantee...

A lot of people I have seen over oil their filters and if you go looking at their MAF you can easily see the built up grime coating the sensors. I can see why GM would cause a stink. Like stated above this alters the signal sent to the PCM which then changes the line pressure to a different value and can cause slippage etc.
I tell all my customers that buy filters or cold-air type kits from us to periodically check their MAFs for buildup. Now I really have a reason...
Thx for the warning.
