Exclamation In the Market for Duramax

I am on the long search for a Duramax Diesesl Allison 5 speed Truck.

Been looking at 2-3 year old trucks and not having a ton of luck.

Ideally would like a 3/4 ton extended cab, 4X4, LS or LT with buckets and leather. Other options are open.

Are there any good things to look for or bad things to be aware of?

I have also thought of just biting the bullet and buy a new one. Any and all advise would be great!

I would buy a new one. With the free credit GMAC is throwing around and a 6-8k break off the sticker price it is a bunch easier to do.You can get the truck exactly the way you want it instead of settling for what someone else wanted.I don't know about Chicago but around here used Duramax trucks or any late model diesel for that matter are damn near impossible to find. And when you find one they want way to much coin for it.Another thing to consider is if getting a loan for a used truck is the rate can be quite a bit higher than new.

I looked at new ones a while back and ended up buying new. The used trucks I found were always one of three things; price was high enough that I might as well buy a new one instead; most of the used trucks I found were not the cab/bed configuration I wanted; the used trucks I found were beat up from working and abuse. I bought my truck about 6 weeks ago and the out the door price was 8000 below sticker.

Ive also been looking at the duramax for my work truck. I have been looking at pricing on them and it is just a much better deal to buy new. Interest rates, rebates, sticker prices. You just cant beat it.

Yeah the rebates are great on the trucks. $2,500 rebate and $1,000 savings on the Duramax / Allison combo. $3,500 in free money.

I did some math, and it will actually cost less to buy a brand new one than to buy a 1 year old unit. Go figure . . .

Finding used diesels is a chore, typically have never had the options I want and have buckets of miles, although have been in very good condition.

Thanks for the input, I guess it is new truck shopping time.
