i sold him that cam because i was tired of it sitting in my shop. it was/is a good cam, just not for a truck. the cam was in perfect condition seeing how it only had about 3k miles on it, and the owner of the car it came out of babied it. JOEJOE, good choice, you'll love the swap...have fun with it.

badmofo,
1. I work for GM so w/ employee discount it was like $175 dollars for the cam and the wide LSA would be good for boost. The LS-6 cam is alittle much for the 5.3 in a heavy truck although the radix helps it out.. a slightly narrower LSA would move the powerband down a little
I'm thinking of running either the 212/218 High lift .558/.563 compcam 115LSA .or the lingenfelter GT2 207/220 .570/.583 117.5 LSA. I'm leaning toward the compcam with the slightly longer intake. and maybe 1.75 ratio rollers to get the lift. 115 is about the LSA I want to run for boost.

Flat top or dish top is not the only difference between a LQ9 and a LQ4. I disassembled a LQ9 last week froma 2002 Escalade. It had rods much superior to the LQ4's. They were not a powdered rod, were deburred, flashing removed and shotpeened. They also had a bushed pin end with a full floating pin. They were heftier than the LQ4, weighed 50 grams more and also were fracture rods. The blocks and cranks were the same.

Moritz parts desk told me today that there wasn't a difference in part number for rods on an lq4 or lq9...leads me to believe they're the same. btw, Richard, how's the escalade going? one of the boys over there said something about an LSX manifold for the DP instead of the alum one.
