Default Lq4 with 706’s

Just want to make sure I’m not missing something.

06 stepside
rebuilt 6.0 with 706 heads (replacing 5.3)
HG compression.054, SCR 10.5 approximately
BTR stage 2 truck cam, beehives already on heads
50 lb injectors
Circle D 3000-3200 stall
uprade to 3.73 gears with a locker
up in the air about long tube headers

no towing, weekend cruiser/shop truck. Am I on the right track. The higher compression concerns me with stock lower end. Got a good local tuner with dyno to set it up right.

10.5 is nothing, run it. LS2s were 10.9 OE, you're fine

add long tubes

How far above the deck are your pistons? That's a very thick head gasket. If they're not at least 0.010" you'll have poor quench.

I agree, but a .051 put me close to 10.8. Piston up .005. Haven’t put it together yet, just doing all the pre-assembly measurements and math.

You’re fine. It’s all in the tune.

I run a 370 with 706 heads and a 222/224 cam.

Timing is dialed back and I run 93 octane.

I hear ya. Think of it like this. Yes, it would increase your compression a few tenths, but at the same time, it reduces the tendency to knock. Worst case, if you had pull back a degree or two of timing, the engine is going to be more efficient and make more power with good quench anyway.

Measure all your pistons above deck, take the highest, and then pick a HG that gets you between .036" and .043". Then tune accordingly.

Yes, I would love to get quench to around .040, but that would require a .045 HG and bumps SCR to almost 10.8. Not sure about that much compression and the quality of pump gas today.

Why I’m at it, the BTR stage 2 was one I had from a previous 5.3 build. Could I get a bit more aggressive or just use it to be on the safe side.

You certainly could. Really depends on your goals (where you want most of your power, driveability, what is your max rpm shift point).

Are your heads ported with bigger valves to take advantage of a larger camshaft?

If you haven't done the 80e swap, I hope you plan on it. Even with a DD, you'll tear up a 60e quick.
nice looking rig...looks like my '04 GMC.
