Default Are leather seats really leather?

My father-in-law has a 1996 Suburban LT with leather interior. He told me he went to buy replacement leather seat coverings from the Chevy dealer and they told him the only part that is actually leather is the center insert of the covering and the rest is meerly imitation leather. I was flabbercasted by this and said the guy at the dealer is a quack, because I'm sure this would have caused an uproar if it were true. So does anyone know definitively if the entire seat cover on the '96 Suburban LTs were actually leather?

Also, does anyone have a part number for the seat cover?

Thanks

So I guess I shouldn't assume my 99 Camaro SS isn't genuine leather then?

Does any one have a copy of their window sticker where it says "leather?" I really have to believe if it says leather seats and it isn't leather, then it's false advertising. I think they have to indicate it's "simulated" or "imitation" or even "man-made." Don't they?

actually the inserts in the seat bottom and the seat back are real leather but the rest is pleather or vinyl. as long as any part of the seat cover is leather, they can just say its leather

Most window stickers say "Leather Seating surfaces".........I'd take that to say, just the part your ***, and back touches. Pretty tricky wording.

Man, that really disappoints me. Is that true for most car manufacturers or is that something just the General does?

I mean don't get me wrong, I like my seats leather, pleather, or vinyl, but I just hate being mislead and I feel like I was.
