Default intermittant steering problem

I have an itermittant power steering problem on my 06 1500 with upsized GMC wheels. When the truck is not moving something happens, or does not happen, that will stop power assist. It's a common problem that GMC says can be fixed with a new valve in the steering system. My truck has had the service recommended in their service bulletin to alleviate this condition but the problem has not been fixed. Any ideas? Thanks

First, make sure your air pressure in your tires are where they need to be.
If this is good, then it does sound like that the pressure switch is sensing too much load on the fluid pressure, and stops the fluid from continuing flow to the rack.
Sounds like something is binding possibly.
I would take it back to the dealer and see what else they can do.

Jim, you hit the nail on the head with tire pressure. I experimented to pinpoint the problem and when I reduce air pressure, thus increasing contact area, the problem is exagerated greatly. Thanks
