Exclamation instrument cluster problems

k i have a 2000 silverado, the cluster is messed up, first off the digital read out goes out here and there, n the second part is the fuel gauge when the tank is full it goes to empty then when you burn at least a gallon or two, it reads the accurate amount, then here n there it'll bounce, now the question is if i replace the cluster with a different one, will it read out the actual mileage i have on the truck or will it read out the mileage of the past truck, bc people i've been talking to dont know if the mileage is kept in the computer or in the cluster, n with the problem with the fuel gauge, it seems like the sending unit? or is it just the cluster thats f'd up?

if you get a new cluster it will have to be programmed to your trucks mileage. The mileage is stored in the cluster. The fuel gauge sounds alot like the sending unit. My cousins would do the same thing.

before you go buying a new cluster check w/ your local dealers if they will do the mileage recal. Remember if they allow it, it has to be a new cluster and not a used one. If they deny the request then I would try finding a used one on here w/ similar mileage. My fuel gauge used to do that until my fuel pump went out. New fuel pump fixed it.

Now might be a good time to upgrade to Denali cluster or something along those lines...aside from nicer styling, you also get a 120mph speedo and a trans temp gauge. As for the sender in the tank, the sending unit alone is fairly cheap, I remember seeing a part number or link around here a while back...

the cluster is a common problem, there is a guy on ebay that fixes them, along with a few other guys on the web. The ebay guy is like $115, i need to get my escalade cluster done. The fuel thing is the sending unit, which is another normal thing, it took be about 2 -3 hours to pull of the bed and fix it.
