Default Instrument cluster issues

Completely stock 2000 Yukon XL 5.3 liter 1500 4WD - 180000 mi.

No fuel guage, no water temp, no PRND321 light, no DRL, ABS light on, tow/haul w/ a mind of it's own (fixed a severed wire for that in the column, no change) and the message center going through 3 or 4 messages (battery, low fuel, service 4wd,).

So..

Is it the cluster, or a computer issue somewhere else? Does the dashboard just receive messages or generate them as well (like tow/haul or DRL, does the cluster tell the lights when to be on, or is that switch somewhere else???)?

Help
Leonard

First check all fuses, in dash and under hood. The cluster communicates with the PCM and BCM. If the gauges are not working you may have a power or ground issue. All the messages on the display make me think you have communication issue.

Question Further dignosis.....

Okay...

Checked every fuse all good there.

Can you tell me where, exactly, the grounds to check are? And, where the BCM and the PCM are and what they look like? I would like to check the connections. We live in a rural area with rough roads, and I was on a rough road when this all started, so I am wondering if a connection is loose or something.

And... if it is a communication problem, is it possible for me to diagnose? That is, whether it is communication towards the cluster, away from the cluster, or within the cluster????
