I have to get this problem diagnosed and fixed asap cause the little lady has informed me, "no more work on my 2011 6.2 until I get the steering fixed on her '99 Suburban!" I want 410 gears and a tune next. Justin is supposed to be in town in April for the tune.
The burban only has 79K miles. Have replaced the idler arm and pittman arm. I also replaced the tie rods but they were not really lose or worn. The ball joints are in good condition . The steering gear box does not have excessive side to side play. The front end has been aligned.
Here's the problem. At low speeds and highway speeds, The steering has a very lose feel almost like the steer box has too much left to right play. The steering wheel is very easy to turn. (very easy). On the highway it feels like the truck is "road walking". Feels like you are turning the wheel too little too late.
This Suburban has the speed sensing steering on it. I do not know how that system works. There is a sensor or valve on the power steering return line. Is this the sensor or valve that controls the steering pressure? Does anyone have experience with this system?

I've fixed these before like this. It's pretty easy.
Instead of trying to explain it, here's a thread I found on Google search. Slopy / loose steering? EVO sensor maybe... - Chevy Tahoe Forum | GMC Yukon Forum | Tahoe Z71 | Cadillac Escalade - Tahoe Yukon Forum

Steering wheel position sensor, or steering input sensor. Depending on the parts catalog. It's at the base of the steering column. When you have the intermediate steering shaft off, lock the steering wheel. Absolutely DO NOT spin the steering wheel while disconnected, or you'll be replacing the SIR clock-spring(big money). Here's a couple pics.
