That same axle broke at the hub like that, on my friends old late-70's Camaro.

I saw the body damage afterwards, and always wondered what it looked like when it happened...

Ouch ... I would have had a nice imprint of my rear molded into that seat and my hand prints molded into the steering wheel.

I saw that happen at the track once. A race set up V8 Vega did the exact same thing, launched hard and the right rear tire came flying off. I bet the was an E ticket ride!
