How deep

My dumb question for today is how much water can the typical 2wd silverado (in sig) get through without stalling out. Seems pertinant as another freaking hurricane/tropical storm approaches my backyard.

I would think the height at which the engine starts to suck in water. But probably a little bit below that. It all depends if the water is moving or not. Here we get flash floods, and the water moves so rapidly that it might only take 12" for it to wash away.

also depends if the truck is running or not if it is your gonna suck water in the intake to the internals of the motor alot faster then you would if it wasent, if it does get up that high with it off make sure to tear the intake off and check or flush out whatevers in there before you try to start it, but your interior is also gonna be ruined

Should give you some idea of what can get damaged....don't let the computer get wet!

If the rest of the season is like Arlene, don't even worry about it. We couldn't even have a decent hurricane party. A few months ago when we got the 15-17 inches in like 24 hours, I went through water that was about 18 inches deep and about a mile down the road my truck started stalling??? I hit it pretty fast and I'm guessing it splashed up in my intake.

You have to watch out for water getting on the spark plugs thats what drowned me out when I was playing in like 3 inches of water peeling out and doing donuts and stupid stuff like that. Me personally I have gone through water as high as the top of my front bumper and was alright but that was back when I had a stock air box so you have to watch for open element filters cause they dont have the box to diflect some of the water. The computer is really low on our trucks too but it has a good gasket seal on it so it shouldnt get IMO.
