Default Help me out w/ some educated guesses...

Trying to figure out what I might end up doing for a project. I was thinking about getting a cheap (like $2500 max to start) Camaro or Mustang and modding it, but if I can spend a comparable amount on my truck without sacrificing too much in the way reliability and functionality (i.e. towing, mpg, etc.) and have some serious performance gains, I might do that instead.

So with that in mind, what kind of performance could you expect out of a 5.3 CC if you did the following:

LT Headers
Cat Back
CAI
Nelson tune
2600 Stall
Transgo Shift kit, Corvette servo

And then, stage 2, would be a mild cam and a re-tune.

From looking at the fastest truck list, and comparing similar mods on 4WD EC's (about the same weight) I'd guess high 14's low 15's without the cam,
mid to high 14's with cam.

what do you guys think?

Let's see, the '05's are rated at around, what, 280-290hp at the crank, stock? My '01 was rated at around 270hp stock i believe, and with shorty headers, a Predator programmer, true dual 2½ inch exhaust with 40 series flowmasters w/o cats, and an air raid cai, it made 263rwhp on a dynojet, which, with the usual 15-20% drivetrain loss, comes out to 309hp with 15% loss, 328hp with 20% loss at the crank. with my cam and PCMforless tune, 3500 stall and 4.11 gears, the power went to 295 at the wheels, or 347-368 hp at the crank. Just some numbers to give you an idea. Hope this was some help. As for track times, I drive a rcsb 2wd so mine will be a bit quicker than yours, but I dont know yet cuz the first test and tune night is tomorrow... I'll run a few times and see how she does. The first runs with a cam and stock coverter and 3.42 gears were rather disappointing, averaging 15 seconds but it didnt pull worth a damn off the line, cuz that GMPP Hot Cam takes away quite a bit of bottom end from an otherwise stock 5.3L.

you could get mid to low 14s with a cam and the rest of the mods you have listed assuming that cc didn't come with 3.23s like my truck.

curtis, ran a 14.2 in his cc and I think his mods were:
5.3, CAI, LT's, 216/220 cam/3.90gears,/nelson tune/2500stall
I may be missing some but you can definately get into the low 14's maybe high 13's in a cc.... that is N/A

Unfortunately, I do have the 3.23's, so that would be something else to add to the list to get low 14's.
