I am trying to find out if there is any type of test that you can do to check for bad rings other than tearing the motor down. Truck uses about 1qt every 1300-1500 miles and worse than that when driven for long distances.

Compression leak down test. Fairly simple, most shops have the tool.

HEY PAL..THIS IS ODDLY ENOUGH....NORMAL!

IT IS JUST A NICE WAY OF GENERAL MOTORS SAYING "WE DON'T KNOW WHY YOUR TRUCK USES OIL"

BUT MINE DOES THE SAME THING.....AND IT'S NEVER HURT IT. I EVEN WORK AT A SERVICE CENTER.....SO DON'T FRET
