Default heard a rumor wondering if its true

well i heard that you cant put a motor in a vehicle the vehicle doesnt come with. ie my truck 2004 rcsb i want to swap from a 4.8 to 6l and if thats tru then i dont want to do it...... if so then ill go with a 5.3

ps i was wondering if there are any power gains with a shorty header.. becasue i wanna put them on what ever motor i decide on to get more power. and still be emission compliant

You can swap a 4.8 for a 6.0,the pcm will work, but you would probably want a custom tune to optimize the combo.Don't bother with shorty headers, save your money for a set of longtubes.

I think there is probably a 6L if not a 408/418/427 in every configuration of a new body style Chevy truck. Tahoe's were not offered with a 6L but mine has one now. I know you could get a 6L Denali but I don't think you could get one in a Tahoe unless you special ordered a Tahoe that way. The SS' have a 6L in them as well.

Summary: I'm 99% sure you can put a 6L into your truck.

remember i still need to be complient... so no long tubes... but are there any thing that i can use like mids or shortys just to make a little more power? i understand what you guys are saying but does the regular cab short bed matter at all? like i know that the ss have a 6l in them but there an extened cab... i was wondering if i should just have a freind call the dmv.... and ask them..

Where do you live? The emission requirement vary from state to state.

Edelbrock makes a mid length header. I have them on my wife's '01 Silverado. They've been on for 4 years and no problems. I'm pretty sure they have an EO number.

If you live in California, TRUE. Lucky for you there is no visual difference between a 6.0 and a 4.8. If you program it right and make it look factory, there is no way for a smog shop to know it's not a 4.8. They do not check block casting or serial numbers, nor do they look at injector constants or displacement in the PCM.

Basanni also makes middies for the trucks - I've got 'em and love 'em.

just put a 6.0 in there and dont worry about it.

edit: while we're here. what DO smog shops look for and how much difference if any would a 6.0L be than a 4.8L? I dont know any of this, I live in white trash michigan where we dont give a ****
