I think your right, 5.3 just has alonger stroke so its pretty much the same engine, and I know the 5.3s can take alot, some members on here are pushing alot of power the the 5.3

When I bought my truck in 03 I was working at a GM dealer and really had no intention of buying one until I walked out to the place they parked the trade-ins and saw a rcsb with a 5.3 and went damn don't see that to often. I had looked around and most of the the trucks had the 4.8 but I wasn't interested in a 4.8 and not to serious about buying a truck either. Long story short I bought the 5,3 rcsb and got rid of my immaculate 93 Mustang lx 5.0 to spend my money on the truck. Knowing what I know now the only Difference in the 5.3 and 4.8 is the stroke and they're are some guys making killer power with the 4.8. You can do good with the 4.8 but both motors have about the same limit as to power you can make with the 5.3 being just a bit higher, remember they have the same block so if wan't you can stroke the 4.8 to the same amount of cubes as you could a 5.3.

4.8 as well if you use the 5.3 rods/crank with LS1 pistons.
