Has anyone everinstalled a non-oem Silverado SS grille on their truck? Thoughts?

I bought a black '03-'05 Silverado SS grille from www.gmpartsdirect.com a couple years ago. I don't know the part number now but I got it from one of these "official part number" threads on this site. You can probably find it by doing a search. Here is what my truck looks like with it:

They don't make the OEM grills anymore or I would have probably sourced one out through a dealer How much did you pay for your grill new from gmpartsdirect?

Oh and also how did you paint your chrome front bumper or did you start with a pershing auto primered one and paint that? Also, where did you get the upper and lower bumper plastics in black?

Hmmm, didn't know the OEM grilles were discontinued. That sucks!! Sorry, can't really help you with the grille situation then. FWIW, I think I paid about $180 for the grille. As for the bumper, I got it from ebay. It's an aftermarket piece that came semi-gloss black from the factory. The fit was good but the paint finish started to fade after a couple months (which I sorta expected). I hit it with some rattle can Krylon enamel paint about 2 years ago and it still looks good today. I wanted semi-gloss because I think it's a good transition between the bumper cap and lower airdam. I got the bumper cap from ebay. It's an OEM piece from a 2006 Silverado. I got the airdam from a dealership, along with the little 1" extension below it. You probably know the 2006 and 2007 Silverados came with pre-painted bumper caps and black lower airdams from the factory.

Yeah I've been hitting ebay all the time and can't find squat for bumper pads (they're all either cracked, gouged or some moron cut it up) and valances are hard to come by too. I think I'm going to have to start hitting up car-part.com now

Also just as a note to you guys, you cannot buy pre-painted SS grille's from GM anymore. They all come in a grey gelcoat and need to be painted to match. Sad

Chris, just FYI you don't need to go through LMC to get one. I'm pretty sure LMC is just reselling the "certifit" produced SS grilles the more I do research. If you go to certifit's website you can see that they reproduce the SS Grille's as well. I'm almost positive LMC is taking the certifit and reselling them for twice the price. You can get a certifit SS grille it looks like for $125 or so.

Supposedly, the bowties do not sit flush because the shape is owned by GM. If they molded the bowtie shape into aftermarket grilles, GM would sue them.
