The 3.73's probably don't pull as well in 3rd gear as the 3.42's do. I know with my 4.11's and 31" tires, my truck falls on it's face after shifting into 3rd gear. 4.11's with 31's is the equivelant to a little more than a 3.73 gear ratio with stock size tires. So, it's my guess that your 3.73's don't pull as well as those 3.42's once you go into 3rd gear. I assume you are both hitting third just a couple of hundred feet before the 1/4 mile traps?

The 310 hp L33 is available in the 2wd and 4x4 trucks as long its a crewcab or e-cab truck. Look in the glovebox at the RPO codes, you will see LM7 if its a 295 hp ironblock truck or L33 if its a 310 hp 5.3L truck.
the L33 has a higher lift cam, and slightly different heads, but the same torque rating both a 335 lb/ft.
You never know with GM and their hp rating system, the 2006 and newer trucks will be on more of a level playing field with the new SAE hp rating system.

It turns out the truck seat backs are concave, and give very good support to the upper back, so that my body barely moves under acceleration. OTOH the Honda seat backs were convex, with support ending about midway up my back. My upper torso was thus free to be pushed back even under the slightest acceleration. To test the theory, I put a small (12") pillow against the seat back of my truck, so that it would support my lower back only, and leave the upper part of my body free to move. Believe me, it felt like I gained 200 HP. Not sure if this is what is going on, but it might be a possibility.
i drive my mom's honda s2000 and i swear it has 1000 hp due to this above.

just say it, you have an old worn out motor and his was brand new.
he had better tires then you.
he has a heaver foot.
he tilted up his *** and farted out the window for extra push power.
you wore your hat the wrong way.
you failed to bite your tongue.
god answered his prayer and not yours.
just face it, you lost.

now spend that money on more mods and beat him.

PappyDan, you missed the point of the post. It was not about losing a race, in fact we never lined up together. I would expect to lose to a regular cab truck. My question was regarding why does my truck feel stronger/fast, goes through the gears better, he even drove my truck and agrees that my runs better. I was curious as to why it's like this when he is in fact faster.

That was funny tho.....gave me a good laugh.

there is no telling why one feels faster or stronger then the other.
most of this feeling can be achieved by vibration from the exhaust, the motor, tires or any number of things.
maybe it is time for a new set of seats in your truck with stiffer springs to hold your *** firmly in place.
