GMT400 vs GMT 800 Drag Truck
Looking for some opinions as I am having a hard time making a decision. Have an itch to build a performance oriented truck since going to the races with a friend last year but can't make up my mind between keeping and building the 98 RCSB I have or moving up to a newer 99-06 model.
OBS Pros - Already have the truck A little lighter (I believe) than the later generation OBS Cons - Engine and trans swap Limited suspension options NBS Pros - Keep engine in it More suspension options Less wiring (I hate wiring) NBS Cons - Still have to swap trans Plans are to start with a single turbo setup and grow from there. 500ish HP to start and then I know I'll get the bug for more. Anyone have any insights? |
NBS. Better frames and better looking trucks. Plus more aerodynamic for when you start hitting 150mph ;) |
Go for the OBS, they are indeed lighter then the GM800 platform. Also the GM800 has more wiring then an OBS, to give a quick example, there are 8x coils that require there own power supply as opposed to a single distributor

If he is LS swapping it (which he should), what difference does the wiring make? he did mention the con of an OBS was the requirement of swapping the engine. So he is planning that anyway. NBS all the way. |
OBS, lighter. Shouldn't be too complicated for wiring... run a stand alone. (Either reworked factory harness or aftermarket)
Just my $0.02 |
GMT400's look better, too. Roast me. I don't care. :)

no roasting needed, we all know someone that needs to wear a helmet 24/7. You just happen to be that someone :) Richard |
