They have the same bore size so they should swap right over right? Im asking because the idea has been tossed around by a few board members before and I am wondering if it is really possible and if it is then where can I get some 4.8 pistons and rings.

You can do it... i dont have the 2 pistons in front of me but i know the bore of the 5.3 and 4.8 are the same. as for the pin height and everything im not sure.

im also not sure what taht would put your compression at

i found the parts

the 4.8 is showing a 1.324 CD and a 0.9452 pin diameter

the 5.3 shows a 1.325 CD anda 0.9451 pin diameter

both with 2-1.50mm ring grooves and one 3.00mm ring groove

so how much work would it be to swap these out? could you use stock 5.3 rods?

i dont see how one ten thousandth of clearance would make a difference on the piston pin.

yes you should be able to use the stock rods... as the 5.3 and 4.8 rods are the same.... the difference appears to be the crank...

like i said though... im not sure if it would be a streetable compression ratio

Check your facts the 4.8 rods are longer.

For all the time and expenses of swapping pistons you are MUCH better off getting a set of forged pistons.

thanks slow... i will look back in on that..... gotta find out which engineer is a dumbass.... our gm system doesnt show the lengths. so i was asking one of the engineers for internal engine components.

yeah i agree if your gonna do a swap like this i would go aftermarket anyways, because stock is not super cheap... and forged pistons would probably be comporably priced, and much better durability

I can get the pistons and rings for less than $450 and they are coated and then swap them myself. I have yet to find any 5.3 flat top pistons anywhere else. These pistons would be coated which is fine, I dont need forged because I wont be trying to push 500hp out of this engine. It will be strictly NA.

How could it not be streetable? Just have someone tune properly for it and Im sure you could make more power with less timing. Well you would sort of have to to prevent knock but you know I mean. Seeing as sportside now has a compression ratio of 10.5 with just milled heads then flat tops would put it up past 11. Quik is running over 11 without any problems there. It will all be in the tune at that point. All im worried about is if they fit and if they could actually work. Ill worry about making it streetable after I find out that information.

99 5.3

Ill do a lil looking around, and make a few calls see what i can figure out as to what you have, and what you will need for it... as long as you get the same year..... it looks like it should be the same....

Standard bore would be part # 88894404

.5 mm overbore would be part # 88894405
