hey guys im finally getting my first truck. its a '92 chevy 1500 with a sb 350. its has 97000 miles on it, but has a new tranny with 2000 miles on it and a shift kit. its the stock height but has rims and has a mild body kit. its gloss black and has euros at the back. it has headers and true dual exhaust. someone tried to break into the truck a couple months ago while he was at work (i know the seller) and they messed up the drivers side door, so he got a new door and got shaved door handles with a viper alarm system. most of the other mods are small but subtle, like the waterproof bed cover and carpeted bed, and the center console he put in. the truck is clean, and i think it looks better than some new chevys.
from all the info ive gathered about these trucks, they run pretty good up to around 200,000 miles or so. the biggest design flaw with these truck in my opinion is the 2 part radio. you put a new one in the center and you still have the ugly square part next the steering wheel. anything i can do about that? also, what is the average gas mileage of the 350?

A storage pocket will replace the factory radio when you install an aftermarket where the tape deck is. As for how long the engine last depends on the maintance of vehicle and the kind of oil used in it. My dad use to have a 94 1 ton dually with 454 and it had over 500,000 on the orginal engine, I am not kinding. The 350 sb are so cheap if do descide to replace the engine, I think the 350 HO (330 hp)crate engine is like $3000 or if you really want an engine ZZ502 (502 hp) for about $6000. As for gas mileage, the dually I mention got about 14 miles on the highway and 10 miles in the city, not too bad for a throttle body fuel injected 454. The options for the old small block is almost limitless, get a Jegs, Summit, and Scoggin Dickey catalog.

when i had my 93 1500 i put the cd player in the middle pulled the square out and cut some 1/4'' plyboard and covered it in black formica to fit tightly in the hole then found the biggest aftermarket tach that would fit cut the hole stuffed in the tach wired it and placed it in. Clean, new cd player, and a racey look with the new tach!

that pocket is cool. i think ill put that in and eventually replace the dash, or just that section of the dash. i know that there are a lot of possiblities w/350s, ive seen a camaro with a turboed 450 hp one that got 35 miles per gallon highway and 30 miles per gallon city. the maintenance on the engine has been good and i'll keep it that way. the guy got the new transmission because the old one was making weird noises. i'll post pics soon
