Default Gas program

The PCM I got NelsonPerformance. I think they set up for PLUS (89 ontace) and PREMIUM (93 ontace). I plan to drive up to PA from Ga this week. I been using PREMIUM gasoline on my 06 Silverado 5.3. IF things need save some money from spend gasoline. I wonder if there I could run PLUS gasoline? How about Regular gasoline? I just not want things mess with my PCM and hurting my engine. BEcause I been using PREMIUM since. The engine is all stock only just CAI and muffler. Let me know before I can decide which one to use JUST FOR trip ONLY.

The PCM has a low octane table built into it, so if you run regular in it, and get some knock retard, it will start interpolating to the low octane table. You should be fine to run reg in it for the trip if you choose, but keep in mind, it's only about a $5 dollar different per tank of fuel between reg and prem.

KB is right. The truck PCM's have routines that will lower the timing advance based upon knock being detected.

It is however possible to set the High octane table and Low octane table to such minimal differences that it could detonate on 87 octane and not be able to adjust for it.

Run whatever octane rating your tuner recommends IMO.

Okay. I not understand what you mean (a $5 dollar different per tank of fuel between reg and prem)
Knock retard. Mean knock piston make it noise?

When you fill up your gas tank completely (about 25 gal) it only cost you about $5 more to do it with Prem then with Reg, based on Reg being .20c pr/gal cheaper then Prem. Understand?

Yes, piston knock, or "pinging". You can't hear it cause your deaf, but the knock sensors can and will adjust for it. With a stock motor, like what you have, I wouldn't worry about the kind of gas you put in it hurting it even with an aggressive tune from Nelson. You just won't get as much performance out of it since it will be running off the low octane timing table.

Got it clear thank you. I know turbo/sc will required to run PREM gas. Also Cam will do that right. But I heard some new tech have pcm adjust timing for aftermarket cam run either plus or prem right?
