Default fuel pump pick-up?

I have to run way more fuel in the tank at the the track than I want to ever since I cut the bottom of the bucket out of the stock pump assembly.
Has anyone ran a hard line from their in-tank Walbro to the rear of the tank?
I was thinking of having a sock at the end of the line, but someone suggested today to just run a small inline fuel filter instead...in the tank that is...inline to the rear of the tank...
the Walbro end of this hard line could possibly be attached to the pump with hose and clamps...

You could always run a Strainer (sock) filter in the tank and then use and inline fuel filter outside of the tank for added filtering.

well, I still have the stock inline filter before the inline Bosch...
the in-tank Walbro feeds the Bosch...and has a sock...
the issue is not so much filtering, but needing a pick-up at the rear of the tank for racing...

I have had a little thought about tanks recently, and was wondering how taking a Devious Customs tank (made to sit higher for bagged guys) and adding a sump to it since the tank is aluminum. Something like the aeromotive setup. Would cost more that adding a pick-up, but just something that has crossed my mind. Here is a pic of there tank

And the aeromotive setup

I have a good idea every now and then lol I figure if you put an angled piece just before the sump, towards the back (front -> back like so /) that hung over the sump it would allow fuel to flow over it and into the sump, but not allow it easily back out since that piece would sort of hold it in the sump. Hopefully that makes since. I want be able to do it anytime soon, but might have to follow in your footsteps if you go through with it.
