Your VIN will tell you. There's a letter for each engine...I think "T" is the regular 5.3 and "Z" is flex fuel. I'm about 75% sure on that, just do a quick double check if you want.

what about the 6.0?
The 6.0 going in is from a 2005 3/4 ton chevy. I'll have to see if the tuner can extract the VIN from the PCM, maybe that will tell us.

Hello agin I have some more info about the E 85 fuel I have put in my 2005 GMC truck I see that people want to know about the fuel econimy of the E85 and the price per gallon. The price I payed for E 85 was $2.59 per Gallon when regular 89 gas was $2.86 a Gallon thats 27 Cents cheeper per gallon than gas. When it comes to fuel consumption mpg on E85 fuel I have notice little diffrance I get about 5% less fuel econimy im still at 16.4 mpg in town vs 16.9 mpg with gas only about 1/2 mpg diffrance or less. Giveing the fact that E 85 is almost 25-30 cents cheeper per gallon I break even Money wise mabe even a little ahead.

The reason is less energy content in the 85% ethanol in the E85 fuel.
You can expect a 5% power increase using E85, with out tuning, just the fuel change.
I the PCM there are actually different Tq curves depending on the ethanol content, as measured by the fuel composition sensor on trucks with the Z code engines.
The reason you feel "hotter exhaust" with E85 is propably because there is more water vapor formed when combusting ethanol than gasoline. Water will carry the heat further back from the engine, towards the exhaust tip.
I run E85 in my Tahoe, with my own tune. ( T engine)
I don´t have much to compare with, but my otherwise completly stock Tahoe is doing 0-60 mph in around 7/7,5 seconds. I don´t know how that compares......
Driving on the highway at around 55-60 mph i get round 17 mpg, doing 75 returns 14 mpg.

I have not ran it yet. It is only about $0.25 cheaper than 15% ethanol blend or 87 octane gas. I got a card with my new truck that states running the E85 I will get like 100 mpg less than I would with 15% ethanol gas. Not really worth it yet. There are more and more plants being constructed here in Iowa, hopefully the prices will start falling then.

If it ever becomes available enough for a non-flex, straight e85 vehicle to be produced, both mpg and performance will come up. This stuff has an incredible octane rating, but a flex vehicle has to be able to run on 87. Therefore, 87 octane timing, compression, etc...

for whoever said that the oil companies buy other companies out and and gouge the consumers, i have a friend who is pretty high up in the oil companies and ive talked to him about the prices. do you know where the record high profits went? right back into the company to make the gas cheaper for us. if you havent noticed the prices of gas in Europe and Canade and Australia and pretty much everywhere except sugar world south america the gas prices are more than 5 dollars/gallon. our oil companies have been trying to keep our gas prices lower than they really should have been. e85 is a decent concept IMO and just needs top be more developed which will come in time.
