electric fan install??
#1
ok guys, bought myself a cheap christmas present a few hours ago, got a 16 inch electric fan from one of my buddies, it has 3 wires coming off, ground, red, and blue, the red seems to be a regulare speed, and the blue seems to be a high speed. not sure about the cfm it pushes but he says it kept his SBC in his 240sx cool.
how do i go about installing this? not really wanting to run a toggle, is there anyway i can use factory wiring of any sort to run it where it cuts itself off and on??? also how do i run the wires????? what relay will i need??
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED, hoping to install it tomorrow!!!!

You will need a wiring/relay harness for it; either make your own to use the 3-wire solution, or twist the two positive wires together and attach to a OEM/HPM/Nelson PCM efan harness. You will also need to have EFILive or HPT to enable the efan parameters in the PCM.
The other option is to buy a self-contained aftermarket efan controller which already has a mechanical thermostat probe; SPAL, Flex-a-Lite, Painless Wiring etc.
And I can assure you that single 16" fan will not keep your truck cool; don't just take my word for it ask Daniel Crosby (03RedSilSS ?) he attempted the same thing and in the winter it was ok but as soon as spring hit the truck had cooling issues around town and he was forced to put the clutch fan back on. The truck needs dual efans, and serious ones if you are going to tow at under 45-mph. For reference, LS1 efans barely get the job done.
I am not trying to hate or discourage you, efans are a worthwhile mod but don't do them half-assed.
Mr. P.
EDIT - forgot to look, I'm guessing you've got the smaller 28" radiator core, you might consider a pair of staggered 15" fans?

Make life a lil easier on you, get a dual set up for a ls1 car, get the harness from nelson. The you still need to have the pcm set up with HP pr EFI live to turn them on... Like mentioned, I can't believe 1 fan is going to keet things cool...

ttt.. i have a large single fan setup that ive had on a toggle for years, keeps it very cool... been wanting to switch it to the pcm control... there was a write up a long time ago about where to run the wiring and what not. I have hpt so no problem on turning them on.
anyone know where the write up is? i was searching for it and stumbled across this thread so i decided to bump a month old thread to the top
tia!
